Tipperary

October 9th 2013
  • Around a two-hour drive from Dublin into County Tipperary is the historic Rock of Cashel, a spectacular collection of medieval buildings atop an outcrop of limestone. Believed to be the place where St Patrick converted the King of Munster in the 5th century, the ruins include a 12th century round tower, a 13th century Gothic cathedral and the finest 12th-century Romanesque chapel in Ireland. You’ll find good photo opportunities on the road into town from the Dublin Road roundabout but the best vantage points are from inside the nearby ruins of Hore Abbey.
