  • These mills, dating back to 900AD, were abandoned in 1866 when the rising humidity in the valley made it impossible for the women workers to endure the conditions. The micro-climate was, however, very favourable to a rare fern, which is why the ruins have been consumed in a layer of rich green flora. Tourists can easily wander down into the Valley of the Mills from street level in the town in Sorrento but the best shots can be taken from above.
