Beyond the Game: Season 1

For us, football is about far more than the ninety minutes on the pitch. It’s about the journeys you take – with your team, friends, family and fellow fans watching the highs, lows, near misses and glorious goals that every season of the sport brings.

As the proud official rent-a-car of the UEFA Europa League we have spent this season helping fans go beyond the game all across Europe. Here is a selection of our highlights curated from some of the incredibly talented partners that we’ve worked with.

Liverpool with Buckets & Spades

Back in October when this year’s competition had only just kicked off, we sent the guys from Buckets & Spades to explore the city of Liverpool.

They went hunting for everything independent in the city, perfect for any away fan wanting to turn a Thursday night game into a long weekend.

You can get the full run down here.

Marseille with MissCoolPics

We sent French street photographer Joanna Lemańska to Marseille for a UEFA Europa League night and to experience the city, the people and the role football plays in its culture.

What she found was beauty, diversity and a rich collision of history and modernity on the Mediterranean.

Naples with These Football Times

For what turned out to be Napoli’s final foray into this year’s competition, we sent Omar from These Football Times out to Naples to delve into the city’s rich footballing history.

He set out on a journey through the Tifosa-laden streets of the Mezzogiorno and what he discovered was a city living in purgatory, waiting for its football club to relive its glory days.

Step back in time with Omar here.

Dortmund with The Set Pieces

The team from The Set Pieces travelled out to Germany to witness what was probably the most talked-about game of the season and watched Jürgen Klopp return to Dortmund with his Liverpool side to battle it out for a place in the semi-finals.

They spent their trip getting under the skin of what might just be the city most intrinsically linked to football across the whole of Europe.

Follow their journey here.

Seville with Soccer Bible

The architecture and the ambiance of Seville served as the backdrop for an incredible game between Sevilla FC v FC Shakhtar Donetsk, and the guys from Soccer Bible were on hand to soak it all in.

Their away experience explored how the city and football are intrinsically linked – ‘a delicious serving of football culture that is for the appreciative football fan’.
