Everything you wanted to know about LottoGo Australia syndicates

Instantly boost your chances to win a prize on the world’s biggest lotteries by getting involved in a LottoGo.com.au syndicate!

Licensed by the Northern Territory Government, LottoGo, which has over 1,000,000 members worldwide, can now sell official lottery tickets for worldwide jackpots to Aussies. From the best lotteries in Europe, right through to the gigantic US jackpots that soar up into the billions, you can play to win global cash prizes in just a few taps.

And by joining together with other jackpot fans in a syndicate, you’ll get to split the cost of buying multiple lottery lines, while everyone involved gets more chances to win a share of the jackpot.

The popularity of lottery syndicates has boomed in recent years on the back of some of the biggest lottery wins ever being famously won by syndicate groups, meaning winnings were shared out between colleagues, families, and friends. Now, more players want to know what it’s all about, and more importantly, how they can get involved!

Here’s all you need to know. 👇🏽

LottoGo - What is a lottery syndicate?

What is a lottery syndicate?

A syndicate is a group of players who club together to buy lottery tickets, spreading the cost of buying multiple tickets while getting more chances to win! After the draw, any winnings from these tickets are shared out proportionally between members with any entries in the syndicate group. 💰

LottoGo - How are jackpot winnings paid out?

How do lottery syndicates work at LottoGo?

Joining a lottery syndicate at LottoGo.com.au is an easy way to significantly boost your odds of winning a share of the world's top jackpot prizes – and you can get involved for just $10.00 AUD an entry.

Based on the simple logic that the more tickets purchased = the greater the chance of winning a prize, each Syndicate at LottoGo contains 10 unique lottery lines. By purchasing just 1 entry into a syndicate, you'll get a dedicated share of any winnings accumulated by all 10 of those lines in the draw.

Each syndicate is made up of 50 entries, and each entry purchased by a player is allocated an equal portion (1/50) of any winnings. So, if you’re in a syndicate that wins $100m, 1 entry in that syndicate would win $2m! And of course, if you’ve got multiple entries in a single syndicate group, then you’ll get multiple shares in the winnings.

Syndicates are all about community spirit, with players getting together to go for a share in mega jackpots! Check out all Syndicates available at LottoGo here!

What syndicates can I join at LottoGo?

LottoGo.com.au offers customers in Australia the opportunity to play a choice of 4 of the world’s most legendary lotteries with a syndicate. As you’ll be able to tell from the quick stats below, you don’t see jackpots bigger than these…

US Powerball: This uncapped American lottery holds the record for the world’s biggest jackpot ever! The whopping $1.586 billion USD (approximately $2.279 billion AUD!) won in January 2016 was split between 3 lucky players with winning tickets from California, Florida, and Tennessee.

US Mega Millions: Up there with US Powerball, US Mega Millions holds the record for the world’s second-biggest jackpot ever won! $1.537 billion USD (approximately $2.173 billion AUD!) was scooped by a single player from South Carolina.
As another lottery with uncapped rollovers, you can expect plenty more US Mega Millions jackpots vying for the world record.

EuroMillions: With an opening jackpot of €17 million, EuroMillions is Europe’s wealthiest lottery with the potential to reach up to €250 million! One UK player scooped a mammoth £170.22 million in October 2019 (approximately $310,653,325 million AUD!) - the richest EuroMillions jackpot to date.

UK Lotto: The UK’s favourite lottery has given away over £78 billion in prizes and created more almost 6,000 millionaires (or multi-millionaires!) since launching in 1994. UK Lotto’s jackpots can rollover up to 5 times - starting from at least £2 million on a Wednesday, and at least £3.8 million on a Saturday.

Just imagine what you could do with a share in a jackpot this size… it’s time to start dreaming! 😎

LottoGo - The world’s biggest lottery syndicate winners!

The world’s biggest lottery syndicate winners!

We told you syndicates were making waves in the lottery world, so here’s just a few of the syndicate success stories that hit the headlines:

US Mega Millions: A 4-player syndicate won a jackpot over a BILLION (USD)!
This $1.05 BILLION Mega Millions jackpot was won in January 2021 by a 4-member syndicate in Michigan. This made history as the 3rd biggest jackpot prize in the world, as well as the 2nd richest Mega Millions jackpot, ever. In choosing to take a lump-sum payment, these 4 players shared $766m equally between them!

US Mega Millions: ‘The 3 Amigos’ won a share of the record-breaking $656 MILLION jackpot (USD)!
In March 2012, 3 tickets hit the $656m US Mega Millions jackpot – winning £218.6m each! One of those winning tickets belonged to ‘The 3 Amigos’ syndicate - 3 colleagues who clubbed together with $20 each to buy 60 lottery lines. After taking the lump-sum pay-out option, these amigos walked away with a whopping $35m richer each, and that’s even after taxes!

US Mega Millions: 11 colleagues shared a $543 MILLION (USD) lottery win!
The largest Mega Millions syndicate win to date was created by a spur-of-the-moment office syndicate in 2018! $543m was split evenly between 11 colleagues working in financial services in Santa Clara, California. Despite taking home $29m million each after tax, these winners decided to stay in their jobs and use the winnings to pay off mortgages and travel! ✈

EuroMillions - €175.4 MILLION of Irish luck for a Dublin family syndicate!
In February 2019, 9 family members clubbed together as a syndicate for EuroMillions and bagged the highest lottery jackpot ever won in Ireland! As they were the only jackpot-winning ticket in the draw, they got to split the entire €175.4m jackpot between them and planned to share their mega winnings with all their other friends and family – there’s definitely plenty to go around!

US Powerball: ‘The Tennessee Twenty’ split $420 MILLION jackpot (USD)!
Dubbed ‘The ‘Tennessee Twenty’, 20 colleagues working at a manufacturing plant in Portland, Tennessee, hit the $420m jackpot on US Powerball with their syndicate ticket in 2016! The cash value of the prize was worth $254m, working out at around $12.7m each before taxes!

Could you be next to join the ranks of the richest syndicate winners ever by playing at LottoGo.com.au? 💰

What happens if my LottoGo syndicate wins?

LottoGo will collect any prize money from the official lottery, before sharing out the winnings proportionally between any players with entries in the winning syndicate group! Winnings at LottoGo.com.au will be credited in AUD. 💰

Any relevant taxes or deductions in line with the jurisdiction and pay-out rules of the foreign lottery will be made prior to LottoGo paying out the winnings to players. You can find more information on this in LottoGo.com.au’s Player T&Cs.

And remember! In line with industry regulations and legislation, all LottoGo members must verify their LottoGo account online before receiving or withdrawing any winnings. ✔

How can I play foreign lotteries from Australia with LottoGo?

How can I play foreign lotteries from Australia with LottoGo?

As most global lotteries require you to be a resident of the country in which they’re drawn to buy tickets or receive winnings, some of the planet’s highest jackpots – including the enormous US Powerball and Mega Millions - have previously been out of reach to Australia residents.

LottoGo.com.au gives Aussies the opportunity to play foreign lotteries for the chance to win these huge jackpots by buying tickets for the draws on behalf of its members!

Simply select your numbers for any lottery draw available on the LottoGo.com.au site to get started. As a secondary lottery service, once you confirm your numbers for a lottery draw, LottoGo will purchase official tickets for the draw on your behalf which match the numbers you’ve purchased. If you opt to play in a syndicate, you’ll be allocated to a group with 10 pre-purchased lines when you buy your entry. Simple!

For any ticket that wins a prize in the foreign lottery draw, LottoGo will collect the prize money from the official lottery that you’ve played in and any relevant taxes or deductions will be made in line with the jurisdiction and pay-out rules of the foreign lottery. LottoGo will then convert any winnings into AUD before paying them out to the winning players! 💰

LottoGo - Who will be playing with me in the lottery syndicate?

Who will be playing with me in the lottery syndicate?

Other big jackpot fans in the LottoGo.com.au community! Once you choose the lottery you want to buy a syndicate entry for, your entry will be automatically assigned to the next available space in one of LottoGo’s syndicate groups! Each syndicate is filled up with members as entries are purchased.

As LottoGo automatically allocates your entry into the next available syndicate group for the lottery draw, it’s possible that if you purchase multiple entries that they could be allocated to the same syndicate group. This would mean that you'd win a greater share of the winnings if the numbers come up!

For example, if you purchased 2 syndicate entries for US Mega Millions and each was automatically allocated to a different syndicate group, you'd be playing for a 1/50th share in any winnings from each group. However, if your 2 entries were allocated to the same syndicate group, you'd be playing for a 2/50th share in any winnings from that one group.

Await the results: After the official game takes place, your bet at LottoGo will be electronically checked against the results.

How does LottoGo afford to pay out prizes and jackpots?

How does LottoGo afford to pay out prizes and jackpots?

Lottery betting at LottoGo differs from traditional lotteries, in which the prize pool is typically created by the volume of ticket sales. Winnings from LottoGo are funded through a combination of insurance, overall business profits, and sometimes by purchasing official lottery tickets. In the UK, EuroMillions and UK Lotto prizes are funded through purchasing official lottery tickets alone.

Winnings from lottery bets are paid out so that they are equal to the cash option of each national lottery’s winnings, unless otherwise specified, with any applicable taxes deducted prior to pay-out. Part of cost of each lottery bet at LottoGo will contribute towards any insurance in place so that all winnings will be paid out - no matter how huge!

How can I legally play these global lotteries from the UK with LottoGo?

How can I legally play these global lotteries from the UK with LottoGo?

As most national lotteries restrict who can take part to those based within a particular country, players outside that country are unable to buy tickets to play. Even if a ticket was bought by a player living outside the particular country that the lottery was in, not being a resident in that country would mean that any winnings with that ticket would not be paid out.

So rather than buying official tickets for global lotteries, LottoGo offers UK customers an alternative way to get their hands on massive jackpots. By allowing customers to place bets on the outcome of lotteries, LottoGo customers get the chance to win prizes like those offered by the official lotteries - including ones to match record-breaking jackpot amounts like Powerball or Mega Millions!

All the jackpots and pay-outs on offer for winning bets come from LottoGo, and not from the official lottery games. This means that LottoGo customers that win a prize will be guaranteed to receive their pay-out.

LottoGo currently offers customers a range of over 20 lotteries to bet on. You can check them out here.

LottoGo - How are jackpot winnings paid out?

How are jackpot winnings paid out?

Prizes below, or equal to, £50,000 (or currency equivalent) will be paid out from LottoGo to customers automatically, being credited to their LottoGo player account to be withdrawn at any time. Winnings over the £50,000 (or currency equivalent) are paid out once LottoGo settles the amount with the relevant insurance provider. All Winnings can be withdrawn in accordance with LottoGo’s Player Terms and Conditions.

LottoGo - How much can I win if I match all the winning numbers?

How much can I win if I match all the winning numbers?

How much you win will depend on the jackpots on offer for the draw you’ve bet on and the prizes advertised on the LottoGo website for each game! While most lower tier pay-outs from LottoGo are of fixed amounts, our jackpots will vary to reflect the amount available at the time on your chosen game.

Unless otherwise specified, if your bet matches all the winning numbers for the draw, you’ll win the amount that you would have won if you’d been playing in the official game. The amount you would win then depends on the amount of people that have won in that prize tier on both the official game, and with a lottery bet at LottoGo. Here are some scenarios.

If you’re the only LottoGo player to match all the winning jackpot numbers with your bet, and no one won the official lottery jackpot:

You would win as if you were the only winner, and receive the advertised jackpot amount for that draw, paid out from LottoGo.

As you were lottery betting, the official lottery game would continue to rollover as usual as there were no official winners.

If you’re the only LottoGo player to match all the winning jackpot numbers with your bet, and 1 person wins the official lottery jackpot:

You’d win 1/2 of the jackpot amount advertised for that draw, as though you’d played the official game and there was 1 other jackpot winner.

If you’re the only LottoGo player to match all the winning jackpot numbers with your bet, and 2 people win the official lottery jackpot:

You’d win 1/3 of the jackpot amount advertised for that draw, as though you’d played the official game and there are 2 other jackpot winners.

If you and 1 other LottoGo player both match all the winning jackpot numbers with your bets, and 2 people win the official lottery jackpot:

You and the other LottoGo winner would win1/4 of the jackpot amount advertised for that draw, as though you’d played the official game and there are a total of 4 jackpot winners.

LottoGo - Why does the price of Mega Millions and Powerball bets sometimes increase?

Why does the price of Mega Millions and Powerball bets sometimes increase?

The record-breaking American jackpots Mega Millions and Powerball have been seen to soar to the high hundreds of millions, and even billions, before! As LottoGo insure their jackpots to be able to pay out to members who match the winning numbers with their bets, the insurance costs inevitably do rise when the jackpots get particularly high. In these circumstances, LottoGo applies a small increase to the cost of bets on these draws in order to continue to operate their product that customers know and love - and be able to pay out such huge jackpots!

LottoGo - Do I need to pay any other global taxes on my winnings from lottery bets?

Do I need to pay any other global taxes on my winnings from lottery bets?

No, UK customers don’t pay taxes to any other countries if they win a LottoGo jackpot with their bet.

However, on most jackpot games at LottoGo, winnings are paid out to customers as though they’d played in the official lotteries. This means that on some games, the same deductions and local tax amounts applied to official winner’s prize money would be reflected in the prize amounts paid out by LottoGo. This all depends on the rules of each individual lottery that you can bet on. Details of any deductions that may be applied to winnings are shown on each jackpot game at LottoGo.com, as well as in the dedicated Odds & Prizes area.

All winners will be fully informed of the details if there are any deductions/taxes on their winnings.

LottoGo - Do I need to pay taxes on my winnings in the UK?

Do I need to pay taxes on my winnings in the UK?

No, gambling is tax-free in the UK. As a result, customers located within the UK do not pay any taxes on their lottery betting or casino winnings paid out from LottoGo.

Payout of Prizes on Mega Millions and Powerball:

As is common with MUSL Mega Millions and Powerball, The Hedging Provider may also pay out the Winnings in Prize Category 1 over 30 years (the “Annuity Option”). If The Hedging Provider chooses the Annuity Option, the first payment will be made as soon as possible after the draw, with the next 29 payments at one-year intervals. The level of payments is calculated such that the payments rise by the percentage set by MUSL from year to year until the full sum has been paid out. If The Hedging Provider chooses the option to pay out Winnings in one lump sum (“Cash Option”), the Winnings after withholdings are discounted, as it is done in MUSL Mega Millions and Powerball. The discount rate is 40%, i.e. the lump sum is 60% of the Annuity Option value. It is in The Hedging Provider’s discretion to choose the payout plan.

Withholdings for Prizes on Mega Millions and Powerball:

The Hedging Provider retains 38% withholdings of prizes in the highest three prize categories because it is intended to put Players in similar economic position as if they had played the underlying lottery.

C. Winnings in a Type A Prize Category. The Winnings payable in respect of each Bet in a Type A Prize Category (as defined in the table above), will depend on the number of the Underlying Lottery Winning Tickets in that Prize Category, the number of Hedging Provider Winning Bets in that Prize Category, the payable Prize by the Underlying Lottery Operator for the Underlying Lottery Winning Tickets in that Prize Category as well as the Underlying Lottery Jackpot in that Prize Category. The Hedging Provider calculates the Winnings in a Type A Prize Category on the basis of the amount of aggregate stakes published by the Underlying Lottery Operator as well as the distribution to that Jackpot Prize Category or on the basis of the jackpot published on the Website of the Underlying Lottery Operator for that Prize Category of the relevant draw of the Underlying Lottery.

Only one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type A Prize Category

If there is only one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type A Prize Category, the Winnings payable in respect of this Hedging Provider Winning Bet are calculated as:

Winnings = Underlying Lottery Jackpot in that Type A Prize Category / (Underlying Lottery Jackpot Winning Tickets in that Type A Prize Category + 1)

Example 1: There is only one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in the Type A Prize Category and no Underlying Lottery Winning Ticket has been announced by the Underlying Lottery Operator in the Type A Prize Category in respect of an Underlying Lottery Jackpot in the Type A Prize Category of 90,000,000.00 EUR. The Winnings payable in respect of that single Hedging Provider Winning Bet amount to 90,000,000.00 EUR.

Example 2: There is only one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in the Type A Prize Category and two Underlying Lottery Jackpot Winning Tickets have been announced by the Underlying Lottery Operator in the Type A Prize Category in respect of an Underlying Lottery Jackpot in the Type A Prize Category of 90,000,000.00 EUR. The Winnings payable in respect of that single Hedging Provider Winning Bet amount to 30,000,000.00 EUR.

More than one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in the Type A Prize Category

If there is more than one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in the Type A Prize Category, the Winnings payable in respect of the Hedging Provider Winning Bets in the Type A Prize Category are calculated based on a “Share Model“, consisting of three steps.

Step 1 – Calculation of the number of shares:

Number of shares = Number of Underlying Lottery Jackpot Winning Tickets in that Prize Category + Number of Hedging Provider Winning Bets in that Prize Category

Step 2 – Calculation of Size of each share:

Size of 1 share = Underlying Lottery Jackpot in that Prize Category / Number of shares

Step 3 – Allocation of Winnings:

1 share per Hedging Provider Winning Bet in the Type A Prize Category

Example 3: There are two Hedging Provider Winning Bets in the Type A Prize Category and one Underlying Lottery Jackpot Winning Ticket has been announced by the Underlying Lottery Operator in the Type A Prize Category in respect of a Underlying Lottery Jackpot in the Type A Prize Category of 90,000,000.00 EUR. There are three payout shares, with a size of 30,000,000.00 EUR each. The Winnings payable in respect of each Hedging Provider Winning Bet in the Type A Prize Category amounts to 30,000,000.00 EUR.

Winnings in a Type B Prize Category. The Winnings payable in respect of each Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type B Prize Category (as defined in the table above, for example Prize Category 2 in EuroMillions) will depend on the number of the Underlying Lottery Winning Tickets in that Prize Category, the number of Hedging Provider Winning Bets in that Prize Category, the payable Prize by the Underlying Lottery Operator for the Underlying Lottery Winning Tickets in that Prize Category as well as the Underlying Lottery Jackpot in that Prize Category. The Hedging Provider calculates the Winnings in a Type B Prize Category on the basis of the amount of aggregate stakes published by the Underlying Lottery Operator as well as the distribution to that Jackpot Prize Category or on the basis of the jackpot published on the Website of the Underlying Lottery Operator for that Prize Category of the relevant draw of the Underlying Lottery.

Only one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type B Prize Category

If there is only one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type B Prize Category, the Winnings payable in respect of this Hedging Provider Winning Bet are calculated as:

Winnings = Underlying Lottery Jackpot in that Type B Prize Category / (Underlying Lottery Jackpot Winning Tickets in that Type B Prize Category + 1)

Example 1: There is only one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type B Prize Category and no Underlying Lottery Winning Ticket has been announced by the Underlying Lottery Operator in that Type B Prize Category in respect of an Underlying Lottery Jackpot in a Type B Prize Category of 9,000,000.00 EUR. The Winnings payable in respect of that single Hedging Provider Winning Bet amount to 9,000,000.00 EUR.

Example 2: There is only one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type B Prize Category and two Underlying Lottery Jackpot Winning Tickets have been announced by the Underlying Lottery Operator in that Type B Prize Category in respect of a Underlying Lottery Jackpot in a Type B Prize Category of 9,000,000.00 EUR. The Winnings payable in respect of that single Hedging Provider Winning Bet amount to 3,000,000.00 EUR.

More than one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type B Prize Category

If there is more than one Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type B Prize Category, the Winnings payable in respect of these Hedging Provider Winning Bets are calculated based on a Share Model, consisting of three steps:

Step 1 – Calculation of the number of shares:

Number of shares = Number of Underlying Lottery Winning Tickets in that Prize Category + Number of Hedging Provider Winning Bets in that Prize Category

Step 2 – Calculation of Size of each share:

Size of 1 share = Underlying Lottery Jackpot / Number of shares

Step 3 – Allocation of Winnings:

1 share per Hedging Provider Winning Bet in that Prize Category

Example 3: There are two Hedging Provider Winning Bets in a Type B Prize Category and one Underlying Lottery Winning Ticket has been announced by the Underlying Lottery Operator in that Type B Prize Category in respect of an Underlying Lottery Jackpot in a Type B Prize Category of 3,000,000.00 EUR. There are three payout shares, with a size of 1,000,000.00 EUR each. The Winnings payable in respect of each Hedging Provider Winning Bet in that Prize Category amount to 1,000,000.00 EUR.

E. Winnings in a Type C Prize Category. The Winnings to be paid out in respect of each Hedging Provider Winning Bet in a Type C Prize Category (as defined in the table above, for example Prize Category 4 in EuroMillions) shall be the amount of the Prize announced by the Underlying Lottery Operator in respect of an Underlying Lottery Winning Ticket in the respective Prize Category. If the Underlying Lottery Operator has not announced a Prize in the respective Prize Category for the relevant draw of the Underlying Lottery, the Winnings payable in respect of each Hedging Provider Winning Bet in that Prize Category will be calculated on the basis of the aggregate amounts paid in for the relevant draw of the Underlying Lottery announced by the Underlying Lottery Operator and its allocation to the winning Prize Categories.

F. Payout of Prizes from Prize Categories to other Prize Categories. The above regulations apply based on the assumption that there was no payout of Prizes from one Prize Category to another Prize Category , regardless of whether the rules of the Underlying Lottery indicate otherwise. Therefore, in the event Prizes of a higher Prize Category are added to a lower Prize Category, due to either (i) no Underlying Lottery Winning Tickets in a Prize Category for one draw, (ii)  no Underlying Lottery Winning Tickets in the higher Prize Category for a number of subsequent draws or (iii)  to a jackpot cap in respect of the higher Prize Category, this will not be taken into account by the Operator. The Operator will only payout the Prize originally allocated to that lower Prize Category based on the stakes published by the Underlaying Lottery and the Prize allocation table of that lottery.

G. SpecialJackpots. For all games, the Operator has the possibility to announce a SpecialJackpot under its sole discretion. In this case, the SpecialJackpot sum announced replaces any Underlying Lottery Jackpot in that Type A Prize Category.

H. One Prize Category. Only one Prize Category can be won per Bet, which will be the highest of the available Prize Categories achieved by, and relevant to, that Bet. A Combo Bet can win in more than one Prize Category, based on the separate Bets it is made of.

I. Currencies. Winnings are calculated and credited in EUR. The exchange rate used is the spot rate of exchange (the closing midpoint) for that currency into EUR on the respective draw date as published on oanda.com or (if oanda.com is not available) the European Central Bank euro foreign exchange reference rate (ECB rate) for the respective draw date. This also applies for annuity payments.

J. Displayed Information. The Hedging Provider will not be liable for any mistakes in respect to the information displayed.
